Westchester County's local discovery guide — written by neighbors, for neighbors.
Westchester County has 48 towns and villages, more than 50 parks, and roughly a million residents who all have a favorite spot they tell their friends about. We built A Place 2 Go to collect those recommendations in one place.
The idea was simple. Every week, someone in our circle would ask the same questions: Where should we eat along the river? Which park is best for a toddler on a Saturday? Is the farmers market in Pelham open this Wednesday? The answers were scattered across review sites, town websites, Facebook groups, and word of mouth — never in one place, and rarely from someone who had actually been there recently.
So we started writing it down. First as a shared document among friends, then as a newsletter, and now as this guide. Every article on this site comes from a firsthand visit. We don't republish press releases. We don't write about places we haven't walked through ourselves. And we update our guides when things change — because in Westchester, they always do.
Our coverage spans six categories, each chosen because they're the things locals actually search for:
Every article follows the same process. A writer visits the location — sometimes multiple times, across seasons — takes notes, photographs, and talks to locals. They draft the guide. An editor reviews for accuracy and tone. Then we publish, and we date-stamp it so you know how fresh the information is.
We don't accept payment for coverage. We don't trade positive reviews for free meals or admission. If a place is good, we say so. If it's not, we either say that too — or we simply don't write about it. Our editorial independence is the only thing that makes this guide worth reading.
Our rule is simple: if we wouldn't send a close friend there, we won't send you there either.
A Place 2 Go Westchester is written by a small team of Westchester residents who between them have lived in Yonkers, White Plains, Larchmont, Croton-on-Hudson, Bedford, and Hastings. We're hikers, parents, cyclists, coffee addicts, history nerds, and restaurant regulars. We argue about the best bagel in the county (the answer changes depending on who you ask) and we all agree that the Old Croton Aqueduct is the best thing in Westchester that most residents have never fully explored.
This guide is a side project born from genuine enthusiasm for where we live. We publish new articles weekly and send a Friday newsletter with weekend recommendations. If you have a place you think we should cover — or a correction to something we've written — we want to hear from you. That's what the contact page is for.
Our goal is to eventually cover every town and village in the county with the same depth we've given to our first dozen guides. We're also building out seasonal content — fall foliage drives, winter indoor spots, spring garden tours, and summer swimming holes — so that no matter when you visit this site, there's something timely to read.
If you'd like to follow along, browse our latest discoveries or get in touch. We're glad you're here.
